Defeat in the team fight.
Although we managed to take the Rift Herald, we couldn’t get the most important vision.
That was how the team fight had turned out as the enemy intended, and soon enough, GRS’s Champions were in disarray.
Outlaw set the stage.
However, there’s no denying that being able to capitalize on the stage he set is a skill in itself.
In that sense, OLZ was the team optimized for Outlaw’s rampage.
Outlaw had the teammates to support him for super plays and to back him up afterward.
You could say that the team OLZ exists primarily for Outlaw.
“Come to think of it… wasn’t it Outlaw who initially formed OLZ?”
Li Zhi-Xuan was at a loss.
To summarize OLZ’s team fight in a word, it was simple.
The well-fed enemy Lee Sin was weaving through our formation, handling damage, drawing aggro, and even tanking.
In Zhi-Xuan’s opinion, the conditions necessary for a jungler involve smart pathing and physical prowess in small skirmishes.
But Outlaw was different.
In this large-scale team fight, he was fully utilizing the champion Lee Sin, truly dominating the battlefield.
In short, he’s just really good.
“…As expected.”
Outlaw was not someone to take lightly.
If Yoon-ki’s Lee Sin had been the one persistently bothering Zhi-Xuan until now, could he have shown such plays?
Zhi-Xuan was negative about that.
[“I messed up.”]
[“It’s okay. We can still do this.”]
The team members made those calls, but Zhi-Xuan couldn’t shake that thought.
“Was it really a mistake?”
No, it wasn’t a mistake. The enemy just played better.
Of course, that said, Zhi-Xuan had no intention of giving up the game.
“The game isn’t over yet.”
No matter how important the first Herald is, even if we lost the team fight, we didn’t hand over vision to the enemy.
Though it was bad news that we didn’t get any vision either.
It would have been better if we at least secured some vision, but with the current situation, GRS, having lost the team fight, was at a one-sided disadvantage.
“…The balance we had gained in the bottom is starting to falter again.”
Jhin’s laning was already powerful.
But after winning the team fight and gaining momentum, Jhin naturally succeeded in regaining balance in the lane, even if it wasn’t outright pressure.
In contrast, the top lane, which was already slightly losing, completely lost balance following the Rift Herald team fight.
Of course, given the nature of the champion Ornn, losing in the lane was a situation he could endure…
“The problem is that Outlaw now has a lane to use as a stepping stone for growth.”
OLZ’s strongest winning pattern comes from the jungle and the top lane.
In other words, the first Rift Herald team fight laid a cornerstone for OLZ’s victory.
What GRS needed to do from now on was either to break that cornerstone or to build their own winning foundation.
“Can we cover bottom?”
[“Um, I think we can.”]
“Let’s go for it.”
Li Zhi-Xuan didn’t want a shield-versus-knife situation.
Knife versus knife.
If the enemy is aiming for a top jungle carry, we should be aiming for a mid ADC carry.
“Cut off the enemy’s flow in the bottom.”
Li Zhi-Xuan’s Arin and MaBing’s Graves passed through the river to enter the enemy’s blue area to tighten the net around the bottom lane.
Just as both sides were about to pounce on the enemy bottom,
[“They’re backing off.”]
OLZ’s bottom duo retreat amicably despite the wave of minions coming in.
Of course, it wasn’t an odd decision.
No matter how many turrets there are, holding a 2:4 position wouldn’t have been a wise choice.
Yet, despite that, the enemy’s response was incredibly swift.
“…Are they completely backing off?”
For the enemy to make such a choice, there must be something else they were willing to sacrifice.
“Don’t tell me.”
Li Zhi-Xuan’s gaze shifted to the mid lane.
Baegah, who had been pressured throughout, had established a mid lane and was leading the wave towards the mid turret.
And just as if they were waiting for it, Outlaw’s Lee Sin appeared.
“Oh no.”
The enemy’s goal from the beginning was the mid first turret.
The bottom first turret and the mid first turret.
In tactical terms, the two are not even comparable.
The mid first turret was an object directly related to the most important vision in Legends of League, and losing it would mean giving the enemy the control of the map’s center line.
“Can Ornn cover mid?”
[“Doesn’t seem like it.”]
Unfortunately, Ornn was also under pressure from the enemy Aatrox, so all GRS could do was exchange the mid and bottom turrets.
“Of course, if we go to stop now, we might be able to keep the mid first tower.”
However, the same goes for the enemy.
If Arin leaves to defend the mid turret, the enemy bottom duo, who had retreated in full condition, would come back to defend the bottom turret.
It was a fluid and organic movement.
“…This isn’t good.”
At first glance, it looked like they exchanged turret walls, but the problem was the top side.
Since both teams’ junglers had shown up, the Aatrox, who had the initiative, began to pressure Ornn even more.
“I already missed my 6-level ignite timing. There’s nothing Ornn can do in the top now.”
Slowly, slowly.
The game tilted towards OLZ.
For GRS, something that they absolutely couldn’t allow was happening.
But why are strong teams strong?
“This has to happen.”
Strong teams know when to take a gamble.
And when Li Zhi-Xuan judged it, it was that time to make a gamble.
“Next Rift Herald.”
GRS’s Champions gathered again.
And then, they were defeated.
*
I can’t believe we just scrimmed against GRS.
And then the victory followed.
[Victory]
One of the strongest contenders for the Red Cup, GRS, lost in a scrim to a team that just got promoted to the first division and isn’t even a participant in the Red Cup.
No matter how much a scrim is just a scrim, since the opponent is who they are, our team members couldn’t hide their joy in victory.
“Nice!”
“Wow, we actually won this.”
“Oh, we should have gone to the Red Cup. Right?”
“I admit.”
Kim Jae-min and Baek Seong-an were giggling as always, enjoying the victory.
But that doesn’t mean that Nana or the other team members weren’t happy either.
“Everyone worked hard.”
“I really thought we were going to lose.”
“Seriously. Why were they so sharp in the middle of the match? We almost freaked out.”
As Seo Yeon-woo said, it wasn’t an easy victory.
Even though we captured the initiative after the first Rift Herald team fight, we had to endure a fierce battle that lasted until a whopping 45 minutes.
“Okay, gather around everyone.”
Since it was a game with a lot to learn, feedback started quickly before the experiences faded away.
“I feel like we shouldn’t have done this here. It’s a good thing they messed up, otherwise we would have been in trouble.”
“That makes sense.”
“And this part…”
Unfortunately, our short feedback time during the brief break wasn’t long.
We had to dive right into the next game against GRS.
“This time, we have blue.”
“Got it.”
The second scrim match began.
Perhaps because of the defeat in the first game, GRS began to bring out unusual picks right from the ban/pick phase.
[Nidalee]
[Renekton]
As soon as we locked in our first pick, the enemy responded with the Nidalee Renekton combo for their first two picks.
No matter how much the meta changes, it was still a solid and powerful combo.
“The tricky part is that we can’t tell where Renekton is going.”
Therefore, picking Renekton was a first pick while also potentially being a last pick.
Of course, if our mid or top picked a direct counter to Renekton, he’d probably escape to another lane, but then the enemy would simply choose another counter pick, which wouldn’t matter much.
After the ban/pick was completed.
The game finally began.
-Welcome to Summoner’s Rift!
“Let’s just do what we’ve been doing. Keep it going.”
“Okay.”
“Fighting!”
The enemy selected a trendy yet fundamental combo of Renekton, Nidalee, and Gangplank.
With Renekton and Nidalee thriving early, Gangplank would have a platform to carry once he grew up.
Meanwhile, we picked Aatrox in the top lane.
He was capable of pressuring Gangplank in lane while still keeping his growth potential high.
And just like that, the second set began, and before even hitting 25 minutes,
[Defeat]
We lost.
