[TS] Obsessed Gamer: The Ultimate Return – Chapter 342

“Where do you want to go?”

Common sense dictates that if both GRS and SCV suggested a scrim, we should do both.

But you know…

“Isn’t it better to just help the Korean team? It might not look good if this gets out later.”

“Yeah, I think so too.”

Baek Seong-an agreed as well.

It was only natural. If someone asked us to choose between SCV and GRS, we’d obviously root for the Korean team, SCV.

‘Of course, I do have personal feelings towards GRS…’

Still, no matter how good my feelings are, strictly speaking, GRS is currently the enemy team. If word got out in Korea that we helped them, it could bring unnecessary trouble to our team.

“Please tell GRS I’m sorry, but we already have plans.”

“Got it.”

So, we pushed aside the scrim with GRS and scheduled one with SCV.

It was also a great opportunity for our team since we could meet a team that made it to the Red Cup semifinals.

Baek Seong-an left for a moment and returned shortly after.

“I’m done with the call. GRS said they understand.”

“Thanks.”

“I also told SCV. They said thank you. The scrim is fine from tomorrow morning, right?”

“Yes, yes. Of course.”

From SCV’s perspective, since their schedule was tight, the scrim was set up quickly.

“Alright, we’ll scrim SCV tomorrow, so let’s call it a day and rest.”

“Okay.”

“We will.”

“Understood.”

Kim Jae-min was the first to respond, followed by Seo Yeon-woo and Kim Ji-hoon in turn.

And…

It was now 10 AM the next day.

The time we agreed to start the scrim.

As I created a room in the tournament server and waited, Baek Seong-an received some news from SCV.

“Yujin, SCV wants to try a Ban/Pick where they give us Gwen. Is that okay with you?”

“Ah, yeah, that’s fine. We’re helping them anyway.”

“Okay. I’ll say that.”

“Sure.”

According to the Red Cup standards, Gwen currently holds an almost OP position in the top lane.

The reason is simple.

The high-tier picks in the top lane are Gwen and Gangplank, and Gwen performs very well against Gangplank.

Thus, Gwen has become an unmatched pick in the Red Cup top lane.

Of course, if they take her, they could counter her with picks like Jason or Kennen, but since it was a matchup where Gwen could hold her own regardless of her performance, her value only increased.

‘If they’re practicing giving us such a Gwen… They want to test if they can break the top lane or figure something else out.’

Seo Yeon-woo had been practicing Gwen quite a bit recently, so it was a great opportunity for us to test it as well.

Our team’s side was blue.

Since SCV wanted to give us Gwen and then proceed with the Ban/Pick, banning Gwen was obviously off the table.

And,

The Ban/Pick was quickly completed.

Since the direction of the Ban/Pick had already been set, there was no need to draw it out unnecessarily.

[OLZ / SCV]

Top: Gwen / Jason

Jungle: Graves / Wukong

Mid: Riven / Arin

Bot: Ezreal / Kai’Sa

Support: Leona / Nautilus

The picks themselves were commonly seen when taking Gwen.

SCV would determine the direction of the Ban/Pick based on whether Jason could handle Gwen or if Wukong and Arin would perform well after taking Gwen.

“Everyone, fight on!”

“Let’s go!”

The game began.

The early invade phase went smoothly without any incidents.

As is usual in scrims, if the game goes south during the invade, you often have to rematch, so everyone was careful.

First, both junglers had predicted each other’s starting points.

I started red, and Wukong also started blue, leading to both junglers on the same buff path.

‘So…’

Overall, the early lane phase was fine.

Although the mid lane seemed to exchange damage a bit too much at first, it was not to a point where there were clear openings.

In the top lane, Gwen vs. Jason had Jason gradually pressing the advantage from the start.

However, Gwen had no reason to feel bad; she just needed to farm well to claim victory in this matchup.

“Yeon-woo, how’s it going?”

[“I think we just need to watch the dive later.”]

“Got it.”

It seemed possible that Wukong and Arin would create a big wave with Jason to dive, so he just needed to keep an eye out for that while I focused on jungle farming.

‘Mid is a bit concerning, but… it’s Riven, so it should be fine.’

Riven had recently emerged as a counter pick to Arin.

Her advantage lies in restricting Arin’s mobility, making her a popular counter against Arin, who is otherwise a high-tier pick alongside LeBlanc in mid.

‘The great thing about Riven is, even if she falls behind a bit, she can still have her value in fights.’

The biggest strength of Riven is her strong crowd control and teamfight impact.

Even if she falls behind in the lane, she could make up for it during teamfights and skirmishes, so I didn’t worry too much about the mid side.

[“Hey, top now.”]

“Okay, got it.”

Jason was poised to set up a dive.

Of course, since Gwen can easily counter a dive with her W if used correctly, it was still necessary for me to watch.

Jason started moving towards the top with a big wave.

Wukong quietly joined in, while Arin seemed to be planning something as well.

‘Not today.’

As I boldly showed up at the top, the enemy Jason and Wukong decided not to engage and retreated smoothly.

The enemy’s first dive attempt had failed.

[“Nice.”]

[“Good job.”]

The next incident occurred at the bot lane.

With the positions of both junglers exposed, SCV’s Nautilus boldly engaged without holding back.

– First Blood!

– Our side has been taken down!

An accident occurred at the bot lane.

The one who died was our Leona.

Normally, Leona would have an advantage over Nautilus, but the enemy’s play was bold and well-timed.

Fortunately, we avoided a catastrophe where Ezreal also went down, but it was needless to say that the balance we had in the bot lane was now shattered.

Soon, the enemy’s strategy began to shift slightly.

Rather than trying to break Gwen, they seemed to want to create some action down bot.

‘It’s already hard for Gwen to establish Rift Herald control against Jason. This game… is going to get tough.’

Of course, given Gwen’s nature, she becomes more advantageous as time goes on.

Especially since her teamfight and sidelane destruction capabilities are well-known.

Regardless, with the balance broken in the bot lane, it became very awkward for me to make plays there.

If it were an average team, I would have tried to find an opening, but SCV is a top team that made it to the Red Cup semifinals.

Such openings were hard to come by.

‘Hmm…’

– The red team has slain the Wind Dragon!

The first dragon was easily taken by SCV, who had the control in the bot lane.

But we weren’t just going to sit back and take this.

“This, let’s see what we can do around the Rift Herald.”

Even though we lacked control in the bot lane, I intentionally obtained vision there while applying pressure on their bot.

It was around a minute before the Herald would spawn.

As the enemy bot felt the pressure, I requested our bot lane to join me towards the Herald with the momentary advantage we had.

“You can come, right?”

[“Okay, I’ll head right over.”]

Originally, our team’s strategy was to leave Kim Jae-min in the bot lane for the first Herald and play 4:5.

However, that was only if the enemy was relatively weaker than our team, and against SCV, it was a different story.

“Let’s secure the Herald ourselves.”

Our bot side moved quickly to join the first Herald fight.

SCV also seemed not to be willing to give up this Herald easily, but we had a numbers advantage, making it hard for them to approach.

– The blue team has slain the Rift Herald!

As soon as we secured the Herald.

[“Incoming.”]

SCV’s champions rushed towards us.

The scrim concluded.

The result was 3:1.

It was our defeat.
