Your Commander-in-Chief – Chapter 125

A perfectly ordinary day in Deron.

While riding my wolf and gathering herbs, I noticed the sky darkening.

“Oh…”

Black clouds started from a small point and were expanding their territory.

At this rate, the entire area would surely be enveloped in darkness.

This wasn’t just a simple change in the weather.

I wasn’t the only one witnessing this phenomenon.

Users nearby, who were busy slaying monsters, were looking up at the sky just like I was.

The black clouds kept spreading. The guild chat and world chat were overflowing with discussions about this event.

Deron’s users, scattered across the region, began to gather one by one in the martial realm.

They all figured out what this sudden weather change meant.

The Kraken, the world boss added in the previous expansion pack.

This kind of phenomenon was often observed when it showed up.

No doubt about it. This was a sign of a new world boss’s emergence.

Thundering rumble—!

Amidst the black clouds engulfing the sky, white lightning began to squirm.

The flashing light stretched between the clouds, revealing a bizarre shape.

The bright flashes illuminated the darkness beyond the clouds.

Thanks to that, I glimpsed a gigantic shadow lurking beyond.

It was massive and long, wriggling through the sky.

It was definitely a new world boss.

Yeo-[Come to the martial realm immediately. All of you. No exceptions!]

I summoned the guild members via guild chat. But I didn’t stop there.

I promptly sent a message to the leaders of the alliance guilds.

Yeo-[You all see that weird thing in the sky over the martial realm, right? I think the world boss has respawned. Please gather your guild members.]

Even if my identity was fully revealed, the leaders of the alliance didn’t change their attitude much.

Of course, there was a slight increase in the condescending tone, but I could still wield considerable influence over them.

“Come on out!”

I shouted, stretching out my legs and arms. Since I couldn’t predict where the world boss would show up, it was better to fly in the sky on my griffin, Biyaki, than to race with my wolf.

“Biyah!”

The special riding mount, the green-feathered Windwalker, made its grand entrance with a magnificent roar.

With its wide spread wings, the dazzling beak, and sharp claws, it was flawless.

“Let’s go!”

“Biyah!”

I hopped on Biyaki’s back and began to soar through the sky.

Each powerful flapping of Biyaki’s thick legs sent us zipping faster and faster.

Thundering rumble!

Occasionally, flashes of lightning in the sky revealed glimpses of the world boss lurking beyond the clouds.

I wasn’t the only one flying into the sky to track the world boss. Users from the human clan, demon clan, and elf clan were all rushing up into the air.

“It’s the Cow Demon Lord!”

“The Blood Demon Lord!”

“Kill it!”

Naturally, there were users from our opponent alliance as well.

As soon as they spotted me, they pulled out their soft & chewy cow suits and shouted.

My expression naturally hardened. After shooting a commercial for Soft & Chewy Cow, new nicknames began to stick.

Cow Demon Lord, Blood Demon Lord, Horse Demon Lord, and Yeo’s Milk Momma, just listening to them gave me chills.

But what can I do? It’s just another way to enjoy the game.

Taunting the members of the rival alliance was something I’d been doing as well.

“Die… cough!”

I easily struck down the neck of an opponent having flown in on their griffin.

At the end of my drawn sword was the icy form of a white dragon, cloaked in dark magic.

Do they dare challenge me to an aerial battle?

With a wicked grin, I stood atop Biyaki.

My senses sharpened and began to extend. The pain felt like my head was about to explode.

Quite a bit of time had passed since the new expansion pack was released. For someone who spent all day gaming, the sensations here in Deron felt far more familiar than those in reality.

Flying on Biyaki had become as routine as everyday life.

I held my position with a steady gaze, despite the precariousness of it.

“Uaargh!”

One of the rival alliance’s members, who was attacking me, tried to mirror my actions and ended up falling after climbing too high up their griffin.

I chuckled as I watched.

Not just anyone can pull that off.

I lightly tapped my feet. Biyaki, feeling the shock spread through its back, suddenly pivoted.

Whoosh—!

“Ah! It’s running away!”

“Catch the Cow Demon Lord!”

This wasn’t running away. It was a strategic retreat.

I looked back and swung my sword.

It was to deflect all the ranged attacks flying towards me.

Clang! Boom!

Bang!

Even though I’m certainly more skilled than the average user, taking on multiple enemies alone was tough.

The rival alliance members knew that too.

If this were on the ground, I would have simply fled.

But this wasn’t the ground. Being in the sky opened up options for moves impossible on land.

Just like this.

Thud—!

As I lightly pressed on Biyaki’s back, it surged upwards into the sky.

“Up we go!”

“Climb higher!”

The enemies turned their gazes upwards through the sky.

It was a natural reaction.

In an instant, I kicked Biyaki’s back and swung my sword.

Boom!

As the black lightning fell from the sky, my figure morphed into a golden dragon.

In that moment, the black lightning transformed into a golden dragon that enveloped my body.

I sliced through everything blocking my path as I soared across the air.

[Mighty Dragon Slash]

I felt the precise sensation at the tip of my sword.

I didn’t need to strike deep; I just needed to strike three times.

The elongated trajectory of the dragon cleaved through the griffins the enemies were riding.

“Uaargh!”

“The Horse Demon Lord’s beneath us!”

Those who lost their mounts naturally began to fall.

Immediately, I activated my flight skill and ascended in the opposite direction.

“Biyah!”

Biyaki came swiftly to pick me up after shaking off the pursuers.

I climbed onto its back and took off rapidly.

Helena-[Yeo, where are you?]

Iyap-[I’ve assembled the raid party. Where are you?]

Messages from Iyap and Helena arrived simultaneously.

It seemed the minimal conditions for hunting the world boss had concluded.

I marked the coordinates while dodging the enemies’ attacks.

“Die!”

The pursuit from the enemies was relentless.

I squinted and looked back. There was someone there who felt oddly familiar; I’d seen him before.

He looked furious, as if he had met an old nemesis.

The blurry memory began to sharpen.

In that moment, a playful smile crept onto my face. Looking at the griffin he was riding, it seemed he hadn’t achieved a Windwalker yet.

Right. I clearly remember having slaughtered the Windwalker he was desperately chasing before.

I remembered the scene as it had been back then.

He had chased after me, but never caught up.

Recalling that day, I stuck my tongue out at him.

“Graah!”

He reacted just as he had before to my provocation.

Suddenly, he clutched his neck and, along with his griffin, plummeted downwards.

Is it really that worth getting mad about?

I blinked and tilted my head.

“Uaargh! Brother!!!”

Some among those chasing me turned and followed the fallen man.

In an instant, that party vacated the scene.

The enemies who had been excitedly teasing me in the cow suit wiped the smiles off their faces and exchanged glances.

Only five remained.

That should be enough to handle.

Just as I thought that, a massive shadow started to fall from the sky.

Boom—!

It was a mass of meteorites burning with intense heat.

The most powerful skill of the Elemental Master—[Meteor Strike].

It wasn’t just one meteor. There were three massive meteorites filling the sky.

There was only one user in Deron who could use more than three Meteor Strikes at once.

Helena. It was definitely her.

Flutter—!

Helena emerged from amidst the black clouds.

Riding on a gigantic Windwalker, she wielded a writhing tentacle staff ominously.

“Helena!”

As Helena appeared, she exploded a massive meteor.

KABOOM!

A tremendous shockwave and searing heat radiated outward.

Some of the menacing clouds that had veiled the sky were torn apart.

“Are you alright?”

She spoke in a gentle, warm voice.

I looked up at Helena, who stood there confidently, smiling brightly at me.

“Um, thanks.”

I nodded and began to glance around.

The remaining enemies had vanished without a trace.

“Guild Leader!”

It wasn’t only Helena who had come to my aid.

Numerous guild members who arrived late were flying through the sky atop their griffins.

Ever since shooting the Soft & Chewy Cow commercial, the number of guild members had surged.

As a result, our Soft & Chewy Cow guild could finally fill all 300 member slots.

I nodded at them.

Here was such a magnificent guild leader getting attacked. Surely, it was right for my guild members to drop everything and dash to my side.

Boom!

While secretly praising my guild members, a massive bolt of lightning erupted in the sky.

It was different from before. The enormous lightning stretched long across the black clouds, pushing the figure of a huge entity out of their veil.

Boom—roll…

The body beginning to peek out from the clouds was purely gigantic.

I had thought the biggest monster in Deron was the Kraken, but this one that was emerging was even larger.

Just seeing a part of it breaking through the clouds confirmed that.

[An evil wind begins to blow to the south.]

It was a message everyone logged into Deron could see.

Just as the message indicated, the wind picked up, and the colossal dragon began to move.

Its monstrous body, emerging from the black clouds, was covered in scales of darkness.

The ominous aura emanating between those black scales was foreboding.

[A fallen divine beast – the black dragon makes its appearance.]
