While I was inspecting the corpse of the fallen assassin on the ground, our teammates finally came rushing in, panting and flustered.
I looked at them and spoke up.
“Do you think we can break through that?”
“It might be a bit tough… It might be better to die once and switch characters,” came the reply from the Paladin User.
He furrowed his brow, swinging his mace around as if to say he didn’t think we could break through the enemy lines.
By the way, the enemy team has four members, and so do we.
There’s me, the Samurai.
The kind Knight User.
The Paladin with the mace.
And our newly joined Viking User.
But where did that last assassin go?
As I looked around, frowning, the kind Knight User spoke up.
“Are you looking for the assassin?”
“Yeah, aren’t we supposed to have five members? Why isn’t he here…”
“Oh, you didn’t see the kill log from earlier, did you? He fell to his death.”
I furrowed my brow at the Knight’s words and glanced up at the kill log. Just before I was about to kill the enemy assassin, our assassin user had plummeted down from a height and died.
What kind of detour did he take to end up dying like that?
I sighed softly.
We had to start moving soon. There wasn’t much time left before the occupied territory we had captured would be taken back.
Noticing the gauge was half full, I spoke up.
“Let’s charge in first.”
My teammates nodded at my words.
I looked at them feeling a bit strange.
Could it be because I’ve spent so long as a party leader? I had been naturally giving orders to my teammates for quite a while now.
Was that overstepping? Just as I wondered, my teammates started to charge forward.
While I said we should charge in, I didn’t mean it in such a reckless way.
I watched them with a blank expression.
“Ha…”
It couldn’t be helped. After all, these were users matched with a level 1 character like me. I couldn’t expect too much from them.
I picked up the bow that had fallen on the ground and crept quietly behind my teammates.
Being small in stature meant I probably wouldn’t be noticed by the enemies.
I hunched as low as I could, dodging the enemy’s gaze.
“You shall not pass!”
The enemies, seeing our charge, began to step forward.
Leading the front line was a gigantic Butcher User in heavy armor, who swung his massive pillar of iron against a large wooden bridge with a bang!
Could that have intimidated my teammates?
Those who had been charging boldly suddenly halted.
Then, at that moment, the enemy Viking, who had been watching for an opening beside the Butcher, let out a wild roar and charged forward.
” Hooaah!”
The remaining teammates were thrown into confusion, unable to predict his unilateral action.
Now’s the chance.
I nudged the back of the Knight User in front of me.
“Now!”
“Oh, right!”
The timing was perfect. The Knight User, following my order, dashed forward and swung his long sword, blocking the Viking User’s advance.
With his movement as a cue, the rest of the teammates swung their weapons and rushed ahead.
The enemies’ attention was divided. I crawled as quietly as I could, remaining low to the ground.
If I moved too quickly, their gazes might turn to me.
Time passed, and the Butcher, who had been stamping the ground with his pillar, seemed to lose his cool as he roared and charged forward.
The gigantic armored pig opened up the path.
I seized the opportunity and dashed forward.
Right now, there was only one person standing in the occupied territory. If I could eliminate him in an instant and attack with our team from the front and back, we could end this situation cleanly.
“Ah!”
“The path is clear!”
The enemies screamed as they spotted me, but they found themselves pinned in place by our teammates.
There was no obstruction. I dashed forward and grabbed the Nodachi I had hanging over my shoulder.
At the end of the bridge stood a Knight User clad in gambeson armor.
He leaned against his long sword, wearing a relaxed expression.
“Wow… Did you set your height too low? The strength stat must be capped quite a bit…?”
I could tell just by looking at him that he was different from the enemies we had encountered earlier.
Though he was smiling confidently towards me, his body was coiled up, ready to swing his sword at any moment.
His gaze was also scanning my body back and forth.
But what does it matter?
If there’s an enemy, I have to take them out. Regardless of their skills, the fact remains that I need to swing my sword and sever their neck.
Maintaining my running speed, I swung my Nodachi wide.
Fwoosh-!
The first slash, starting from my back, cut through the air.
The enemy Knight User pulled back his body, evading my attack.
But I didn’t stop there.
Using the force of my swing, I spun my body around.
My firmly extended leg became the axis, enhancing my rotational power, while the sword in my hand broadened its arc as I twisted my waist.
My body completed a full turn. Using that momentum, I swung my weapon down powerfully.
Fwooosh-!
The second consecutive slash.
The Knight User, who had seemed calm, suddenly showed a desperate look as he lifted his sword.
He was attempting to block my slash.
Clang-!
Blocked. But I landed a hit.
As the massive blade of my Nodachi shook the Knight User’s body, his stance faltered in an instant.
Don’t let up. Control the space.
The command from my mind began to be obeyed by my body.
I slightly pulled back my sword, taking advantage of the recoil.
Now, I was going to rotate my body in the opposite direction.
I had a small and weak body. I had gained the ability to wield a Nodachi, but my assigned strength stat was only 6.
To properly use this weapon, I had to hurl my whole body into the movement.
Fwoosh-!
“What…! Crazy…!”
The Knight User reacted with great confusion as he tried to create some distance.
But that was a bad idea. With an opponent like this using such a weapon, it was far better to close the distance.
Realizing that fact too late, the Knight User wore a sheepish expression, but it was already too late.
Once I had presented the appropriate attacking distance, I would strike again.
I launched my third slash.
“Hyah!”
Fwoosh-!
The wide arc of my swinging Nodachi aimed directly at the Knight User’s neck.
However, he didn’t just stand there and take it.
Quickly regaining his stance, he lifted his sword to prepare for my attack.
In that moment, a blue light surged from the Knight User’s sword.
Just as the Samurai has skills, he must have character-specific skills too.
Clang-!
The moment the Knight’s sword clashed with the blade of my Nodachi, I felt a slight reduction in the force carried by my sword.
The Knight User, appearing significantly shaken, swayed again but didn’t lose his posture like before.
A skill to reduce damage? Some kind of parry?
This was my first time playing this game, so I couldn’t tell what skill he possessed.
While I was flustered by that realization, the enemy Knight User closed the distance rapidly.
I was mistaken. A knight who opted for movement over armor was incredibly fast.
There was no chance to recover my sword. The moment I realized that, I let go of it.
With my hands free, that meant I could use a new weapon.
Using my lightweight body, I swiftly retreated and pulled out a dagger from my waist, throwing it at the Knight User.
Swish-!
Clang-!
The Knight User swung his sword, blocking my dagger throw like it was a trifle, leaving his upper body wide open.
It didn’t matter that my knife throw had been blocked. It was I who had guided this situation.
Now!
I quickly rolled on the ground, grabbing the bow I had picked up and drawing an arrow.
In the blink of an eye, the bowstring tightened.
I calmly lowered my breath and aimed at the enemy’s head.
I was in a sitting position, but this stance was inconvenient for shooting. My body naturally adjusted the posture.
The moment a white pain surged through me.
Time dilation began.
The eyes of the approaching Knight User entered my line of sight.
Panic, anxiety, and tension.
Negative emotions passed fleetingly.
Twang-!
The instant I released the bowstring, the arrow was fired.
Faster than the charging Knight User coming at me.
Thunk-!
A crisp impact sound, and moments later, the body of the Knight User shook violently and began falling backward.
Naturally, the long sword he held dropped as well.
Clang!
“Huff, huff…”
The fallen Knight User groaned weakly on the ground before eventually passing away.
A log appeared to show I had made a kill with my arrow.
“Hah…”
I exhaled a breath that had been held in.
As my tension eased, a suitable fatigue washed over me.
Having utilized white pains multiple times in a short span, my head began to throb.
But the game wasn’t over yet. I picked up the fallen Nodachi and turned my body.
On the bridge, the life-or-death battle of 3 against 3 was still ongoing.
I had assumed they would all be swept away by the colossal Butcher User, but it turned out to be the opposite.
The Butcher User was incapable of fighting effectively due to his wide attack range and bulky frame.
To wield that massive body with his pillar effectively, he needed a more open area rather than this cramped space.
I carefully approached from behind, rotating my body.
As if perfectly recreating my skill from Deron, the stance of Wheel Wind unfolded in this game.
Fwoosh-!
The rotational force started from my legs, traveling up my body, and began spinning the massive blade of the Nodachi.
The menacing sound created by that rotation quietly approached the backs of the enemies.
“Huh, hhuuh!”
The enemy Viking User, who had been swinging his axe in front, noticed my presence and swallowed hard.
But it was already too late to react.
I utilized the rotational force to swing the Nodachi widely.
Fwoosh-!
Thwack-!
The first strike decapitated the Viking User.
Before his body could collapse, I swung again, narrowly missing the neck of the enemy knight next to him.
Thwack-!
Now there was only the Butcher User left.
The Nodachi still had power behind it.
I took a large step to the side, channeling all my remaining strength into my final strike.
Chwaack-!
The height difference was too significant, so I couldn’t aim for his neck.
The wide arc of my Nodachi slashed deeply across the Butcher User’s back.
Unlike when I’d felt the resistance of armor with my katana, there was no such sensation now.
It felt like I had truly scraped him, and the Butcher User staggered.
“Huh, hhuuh…!”
The Butcher User’s stance crumbled. The teammates of our side were not fools.
At least they were people capable of thinking.
They swiftly moved in and rammed into the staggered Butcher User with their shoulders.
It was the might of three people combined.
No matter how heavy a pig clad in heavy armor may be, it would undoubtedly get pushed back.
“Kyahh!”
The Butcher User, who had been occupying the narrow wooden bridge, fell overboard.
Thud-!
