“Looks like the enemy team has two Assassins. Everyone needs to be careful.”
With a bright light, we were transported to the familiar Battlefield, and that was what Bisu said.
Just as he mentioned, the enemy team consisted of two Assassin characters and three Paladin characters.
“Yeo, is it possible to change your character?”
“My character?”
While I was examining the enemy team composition, Bisu cautiously asked as he approached me.
Suddenly asking about playing a different character, even though I had outstanding gaming skills, I still needed some time to get used to it.
“No. I think it’ll be tough. I’ve only played Samurai.”
“Hmm…”
Bisu nodded at my words and changed his character.
The Viking character wearing a horned helmet vanished, replaced by a Butcher character clad in heavy armor.
“If there are two Assassins, they will surely come from the side lane. I’ll hold them off. Please push the central line forward and capture the Occupied Territory as quickly as possible.”
“Are you sure?”
“Butcher users are particularly strong against Assassins. While my goal isn’t to defeat the enemy, if I can just hold them off, I can buy us quite a bit of time.”
“Hmm…”
“It’s fine. Just go.”
I glanced at the expressions of my teammates in response to Bisu’s words. The two Knights from White Snake seemed to agree with him, nodding their heads.
Seeing that, I kept my mouth shut.
If he’s confident, there’s no reason not to trust him.
After all, he’s a pro player. He would take responsibility for what he said.
I fiddled with the large Nodachi stuck in my back and nodded.
“Alright. I’ll push as fast as I can.”
“I’m glad Yeo is here.”
As soon as the basic strategy meeting wrapped up, the countdown signaling the game start began.
The wind blowing around helped to slightly cool the heat of the Battlefield.
The countdown started from the number 5.
The moment that number reached 0, the ground shook as if there was an earthquake, and a massive roar erupted.
Wooooaaah!!!
The NPC soldiers began their advance.
Our entire team, except for Bisu, dashed after them.
After arriving at the central line, we waited for the slow Snow Mage while monitoring the enemy team that had arrived quicker than us.
Just as Bisu said, the enemy team had three members here.
All were Paladin characters with the same gear.
In their hands were fearsome morning stars and triangular kite shields capable of protecting their bodies.
Heavy armor wrapped around them, with a cross-patterned cloth billowing in the wind.
“Let’s move in. Bisu asked us to push quickly.”
Just then, the Snow Mage arrived at my side.
I turned around to speak.
Without Bisu present, I was naturally giving orders to my teammate, but no one found it strange.
Even though they must have some pride in being pros, the two Knight users from White Snake followed my commands readily.
“Please, Snow.”
“Sure!”
As expected, the first to charge in was the Snow Mage.
“Hyahhyahhyahhyah!!!”
The Snow Mage started swinging her massive Halberd around, pushing back the NPC soldiers blocking her path.
With the path opened up, our team followed closely behind.
The enemy team wasn’t idle either.
The three Paladin users spread out, shields in front, fanning out in three directions.
Clearly, their strategy was not to fight but to buy time and endure.
I darted out beside the Snow Mage and shouted.
“Attack!!!”
There were only three enemies, and they showed no clear intent to attack.
In situations like this, it was best to charge all at once and catch them off guard.
Upon my command, the two Knights darted out alongside the Snow Mage, rushing ahead.
The enemy’s attention was divided.
Thanks to my teammates spreading out wide on both sides.
“Hyahhhh!”
At that moment, our Snow Mage thrust her Halberd straight out.
The tip of the long-thrust Halberd wasn’t overly intimidating, but it effectively spread the enemy formation.
Boom—!
Now was the chance. Just as I thought that and was about to swing the blade of my Nodachi—
I suddenly felt a very strange sensation, my sensitive instincts warning me as my hairs stood on end.
It was the same feeling I experienced daily during battles in Deron.
Someone was targeting me. I felt the gaze of very sinister figures hiding in the shadows, ready to pounce with their blades in hand.
I sensed the movement of a blade approaching silently.
Without hesitation, I rolled on the ground.
Swish-
A chill ran just before my neck.
I quickly got back on my feet, swallowing hard, not even thinking of brushing the dirt off my body.
I sensed a very familiar gaze fixed on me.
An Assassin user, wearing a Black Mask and fiddling with his dagger, dodged my gaze and blended in among the NPCs.
Had he activated the Assassin’s unique [Presence Block] skill? His name, once glowing red among the NPCs, abruptly vanished.
His form didn’t disappear, only the name did.
Unlike in Deron, the Assassins here didn’t have the invisibility skills to cloak themselves completely.
I bit my lip and turned my gaze to my teammates.
Bisu was wrong. The Assassin I assumed had gone to the side lane was likely here, which meant there was a high probability that another Assassin user was also hiding nearby.
“Everyone, be careful! There’s an Assassin hiding!”
My warning successfully reached my teammates. They stopped swinging their weapons vigorously and began scanning their surroundings attentively.
Good. This should reduce the chances of a sudden ambush.
I glared at the figure concealed among the NPCs.
For some reason, that gaze felt unsettlingly familiar, and the name of the one who had briefly revealed himself while attacking me felt all too recognizable.
[Heavenly Flow Blood Kill Slash]
There was only one person who would use such a nickname with the Assassin character.
Melvin.
The Assassin who attacked me was definitely the same Melvin with that name from Deron.
“You cocky little thief…”
Did he hear my voice?
Melvin, hidden amongst the NPCs, flinched.
Then, he lowered himself as much as possible and began to retreat.
I knew I couldn’t let him escape. In VRS, where stealth was absent, he attempted a perfect ambush.
If it weren’t for me, he definitely would have succeeded.
Should I chase him?
No, that’s too risky.
I still hadn’t pinpointed the location of the other Assassin user.
This could also be a trap laid by Melvin.
Melvin, that pesky thief who always caused trouble, had not changed even in VRS.
The more I thought about it, the more irritated I became.
He’d sneak in, poke me once, and if it didn’t seem effective, he’d bail, only to return for another stab.
“Ugh…”
As I reminisced, my anger boiled over.
I exhaled deeply and moved forward.
It would be dangerous. A trap, for sure.
Despite knowing this, I’d continue. There was no other way to ensure I caught him.
As I pushed through the NPC soldiers, I felt sharp gazes around me.
The sound of weaponry clashing drowned my ears. It was dizzying.
It was hard to focus on a specific sound in such chaos.
Then don’t listen—feel.
Most Assassin users have similar tendencies. The approaching sensation is also likely similar.
In Deron, attempts at assassinations happened dozens of times a day.
With all that experience, I wouldn’t fall easily.
I heightened my already sharpened senses even further. It was like speeding up my thoughts.
Feeling that white pain envelop my head, I slowed my perception of time around me.
My movements became clearer while the din of battle spread out.
In that moment, I caught an unusual movement.
Light and smooth motions.
Someone blending through the soldiers was approaching me.
From two directions.
Just as I thought, all the Assassins had gathered in the center.
Bisu was mistaken.
Sharp and piercing gazes were homing in on my neck and heart.
However, this was an opportunity.
I wasn’t foolish enough to let this chance slip away.
“Everyone just charge in and smash through!!!”
The moment I shouted, the enemy Assassins emerged from among the soldiers.
The Assassins I perceived as the greatest threats were all targeting me.
My teammates didn’t need to hold back anymore.
The quick-witted Snow Mage would surely understand my intent.
I pushed aside my concerns for my teammates. Right now, the most dangerous one was me.
I narrowed my eyes at the advancing enemy’s forms.
What I needed was fleeting.
In this fragmented time, I sought an opening.
No matter how much I raised my Agility to 18, I couldn’t dodge every attack.
Especially when both sides were targeting me.
I had to sacrifice flesh to take bone.
With resolve in place, I moved.
As time reassembled into its original places, my body sprang into motion.
The attack aimed at my heart struck my shoulder, and the one targeting my neck grazed my back.
I swung my Nodachi and spun my legs.
The rotational force starting from my legs traveled through my waist and spread throughout my body.
Crack—!
Without hesitation, I offered my body. In that moment, red blood gushed, and my vision was smeared crimson.
Yet, my movements didn’t halt.
An upward strike from below.
Like an Imugi soaring with the heavenly pearl, the white blade of my Nodachi spun upwards into the sky.
The chest of the Assassin user who attacked from behind split wide open, while the throat of the Assassin trying to strike me was sliced diagonally.
Swoosh—!
The blood that burst out late sprayed in all directions.
Having taken considerable damage myself, I felt my legs give way, collapsing onto the ground.
However, the Assassins who tried to attack me were lying on the ground, unable to rise.
