Even though it was just a one-time item, I felt pretty good about having a special item.
I tossed the dagger I was holding in both hands to the ground.
Muramasa.
It’s a type of katana and a named item, which performs better than ordinary items.
I held Muramasa up to the sunlight.
The shape of the hamon flowing like waves.
Sunlight breaking apart at the blade’s edge.
The snake-like hilt.
The impressive white cord wrapped around the handle beneath it.
I think I heard something about the cord having an official name, but who cares about that.
I really liked this weapon.
The way it fit in my hand and the sound of the wind splitting when swung made it alluring, and its weight felt just right.
I rummaged through several other items, but aside from some new leather shoes and recovery potions, there wasn’t much worth taking.
So, that wraps up the farming.
I returned to the collapsed building and picked up the bag I had left behind.
I caressed my slightly lifting lips as I thought.
It was just a game I popped into to kill time before Deron’s inspection, and yet I was having so much fun.
The Battle Royale mode was more enjoyable than the official VRS modes like Conquest or Deathmatch.
At that moment, a hazy message appeared before my eyes.
[Water is starting to rise rapidly.]
It’s a warning message indicating that the area where users can freely move is becoming more limited.
I frowned as I checked the mini-map displayed in the bottom right.
The area I was in was also covered in blue.
If I stayed here blankly, I would clearly drown.
I pinged a location outside the blue circle and started moving.
As the water rises, it begins to submerge lower areas first.
That’s common sense.
So, the last battlefield of this survival game would be at the highest high ground or tall building.
It was while I was moving towards such a high place.
Creak- creak- creak-
Rustle- rustle- rustle-
I heard multiple footsteps coming at the same time.
Not just from one direction but from all around.
To fight or not? A small dilemma popped into my mind.
To be honest, I wanted to test out the new item, Muramasa.
Just as I was hesitating and walking slowly, I suddenly heard a swoosh behind me.
What in the world—
I turned my head in surprise, and I was shocked.
Water was slowly starting to rise from where I had just passed.
And seeing that the water was a murky gray color made it look quite disgusting; I surely didn’t want to touch it.
The game system began to urge users.
To move rapidly and fight, and to kill each other to determine the final victor.
I hurriedly started moving to avoid the water.
The ruins.
This map lived up to its name, everything was in ruins.
The remnants of collapsed buildings and thick vegetation blocked the way, leaving paths that couldn’t be passed with regular methods.
I lowered my breath and listened to my surroundings.
The footsteps, which had felt close, were gradually fading away as if they didn’t think this was the way.
There was no hesitation in those footsteps.
That means there was no one around who could find me.
I charged toward the wall covered in vines without a moment’s hesitation.
Thud-!
The agility stat I obtained as an item bonus gave me quick movements.
Of course, even without the bonus stat, I could have comfortably climbed over a wall like this.
Thud- thud-!
Two leaps.
I jumped once more while stepping on the wall, and I easily landed on the top of the fence.
By crossing walls instead of using normal paths, I could reach my destination faster.
I slowly exhaled, leaping onto the ruins of a half-collapsed building.
Thud!
Once I got to a high place, my view opened up.
I surveyed the surrounding area without obstruction.
The enemies currently in my sight numbered five.
All of them were moving earnestly in one direction.
If this continued, all five would meet around a similar point.
I took out Muramasa and moved quickly across the remnants of the collapsed buildings.
Instead of going for a situation with a slim chance, it’s better to seek a certain victory.
I nodded my head.
I decided to wipe out all the pesky nuisances dancing in front of me.
Move silently. I began to emulate the movements of assassins I had seen during the VRS event.
I crossed from wall to wall, minimizing my noise.
I got closer to the first target.
I climbed onto the roof of a building that was slightly away from the target.
The target was wearing sturdy iron armor.
However, the iron armor only protected the upper body.
He was wearing thick leather armor on his lower half.
It seemed that every target I encountered had only one piece of iron armor, indicating that the drop rate for these iron armors was quite low.
The swiftly moving opponent glanced around him and then entered a large building.
It seems like he aims to do some additional farming; this works in my favor.
Fighting inside a building is less likely to expose us to others.
Thud-!
I quickly jumped and landed on the roof of the building he entered.
As I fell, I also remembered to roll lightly to minimize sound and impact.
Old ruins are rarely intact.
They are broken and collapsed here and there, and the wooden doors have long since rotted away, leaving only faint traces behind.
I set my bag down on the rooftop and listened carefully.
I was sensing the faint sound of footsteps and breathing coming from inside the building.
Although I didn’t know the structure of the building, I could gauge a rough location from the sounds.
The inside floor of the building was as sturdy as the rooftop, made of solid stone.
There was no risk of my foot getting stuck in the rotten wood, so I didn’t need to be cautious.
I held my breath and entered the interior of the building.
The inside of the building wasn’t too dark.
Light seeped in between the broken walls and places where windows used to be, brightly illuminating the interior.
Dust danced slowly in the sunbeams crisscrossing the air.
Thud- thud-
The footsteps got closer.
I crouched low inside the staircase.
Maintaining a position to leap at any moment, I gripped Muramasa tightly.
I don’t know how long it had passed.
By the time Muramasa’s grip started to get sweaty, the opponent finally revealed himself.
My gaze moved quickly, examining his state in detail.
He was wielding a longsword.
The armor he was wearing also looked to be in good condition.
In that case, the spot to target is the neck.
The stairs are a narrow space. If I were to swing a longsword or katana with a long blade in here, it’d get stuck in the wall.
I changed the grip on Muramasa so that the blade points upwards.
The thrust attack using the blade shifts the center of gravity downwards, thus delivering power more effectively.
Of course, that’s just my personal opinion.
The opponent was vigilant, but he hadn’t noticed me, who was crouched tightly in the corner of the stairs.
Now’s the time.
I held my breath and forcefully slammed my feet down on the ground.
Thud-!
With a sound that echoed loudly, the opponent turned his body.
But my hand had already sent Muramasa flying for the opponent’s neck.
Swish-!
Just before the thrust, the trajectory of the blade wobbled.
The opponent quickly moved his body and deflected Muramasa’s blade with his hand.
“Guh…!”
The opponent let out a small groan before wielding his longsword.
As if knowing I was moving in a narrow space, his attack was a downward slash in a straight line.
Instead of meeting it head-on, I hastily retreated into an empty room.
The scratch on my neck was shallow. It indicated it wasn’t a fatal wound.
The decisive ambush was thwarted. His gaze was sharp, and he acted without hesitation.
He was no ordinary user.
I parked myself against the wall, catching my breath while a stream of information flowed rapidly.
The opponent began to approach slowly, as if he was confident in his skills.
Should I confront him? Or should I wait for another opportunity?
My consideration didn’t last long.
The opponent suddenly charged forward.
Thud-!
At the sound of hastened footsteps, I reacted.
I aimed Muramasa at the direction from which the opponent was approaching and held my breath.
At that moment—
Something flew in from the corridor.
A bag.
It was obviously a distraction to draw my attention.
The opponent’s intention was clear. The moment I swung my sword in reaction to this bag, he probably intended to rush in.
Just as I expected, the opponent dashed into the room right after the bag flew in.
Sealing his lips tightly, he raised his longsword in both hands.
If I’d been a regular user, I’d have been done for.
But he was just out of luck.
After all, the opponent was me.
Whoosh-!
I easily dodged the blade of the longsword that sliced through the air.
I could feel the opponent gazing at me with disbelief.
I smiled lightly in response to that gaze and swung Muramasa that I held in my hand.
In this not-so-wide space, there was no worry about getting the blade stuck.
Swoosh-!
The wide sweep of my strike swept past the opponent’s neck.
The sensation of the blade making contact was vivid. I cleanly severed something solid.
Thud-
I heard a light sound behind me.
Something has dropped.
That would be the opponent’s head.
“Haah…”
I finally exhaled the breath I had been holding.
After moving so fiercely, my tight leather leggings felt constrictive.
I patted my thighs and sat down on the ground.
Having met a cute and pretty demise at my pretty little hands, I doubt there’s a complaint to be made.
I chuckled lightly at the sight of the head rolling on the ground.
Now that I’ve killed the opponent, it’s time to farm.
The first thing I checked was the equipment he was wearing.
[Elegant Longsword]
Attack Power +2
Strength +2
[Bear Leather Boots]
Durability 76/100
Strength +1
Movement Speed +5%
I was hoping for another named item like Muramasa, but alas, nothing was found.
There were only these two things worth taking.
The only other item would be the iron armor, but it had a penalty that reduced all speed when worn, so I left it.
I had wasted time killing him.
It was about time to move to the next location.
I returned to the rooftop after grabbing some potions and bandages from his bag.
