“Are you not joining a guild?”
“A guild?”
While I was studying in the living room, Harang’s question flew at me.
‘A guild…’
I had been looking for one here and there. But perhaps because the world had changed, the guilds I was familiar with from my time were nowhere to be seen.
Even if they shared the same guild name, the members inside were completely different people.
Guilds were an important element of role-playing games.
“Is there a place you want to join?”
“Are you trying to come along too?”
“Uh… yeah.”
Harang answered my question with a lack of confidence.
I patted his shoulder and said, “You should be able to go anywhere.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
Through my experiences on the battlefield, I realized something profound. Being an archer wasn’t the issue. It was the pilots that were the problem.
How many archers had I encountered during that time? Every single one of them couldn’t even keep up with Harang’s toes.
If those guys didn’t exist, Harang wouldn’t have been treated so poorly.
Tap-tap-tap—
Thinking while tapping the table lightly with the pen in my hand. For now, the guild system had no functions besides the chat window, but thinking ahead to the impending conquest or guild-exclusive raid, I had to either join a high-level guild now or build one myself.
“Shall we create a guild?”
“Really? You’re going to create and run a guild?”
I nodded. I wasn’t inexperienced in being a guild leader. But the issue lay with the players of this world.
The overall quality had been diluted, and we were in an era where overwhelming talent determined the game. I doubted I could find guild members who would meet my expectations.
However, attracting young blood would bring up the issue of resources.
Deron had become a burdensome game for students. Cases like me and Harang were abnormal.
It was also a problem with twenty-something men. What use was skill if they would just take off at the call of duty after running a fixed party together?
Even if the world had changed, the military service issue hadn’t been resolved.
A sudden laugh escaped me. In a few years, this guy sitting next to me, tutoring me, would buzz cut his head and enlist in the military.
“What’s so funny?”
“Oh, nothing.”
A guild. I thought I might as well try to grow one.
I quickly pulled out my phone and left a message in the party’s chat room.
Party Leader – [Is there anyone without a guild? I’m thinking of forming one, so please send me a private message if you’re interested.]
I wanted to draw in the closest people first.
Though I said that, I secretly hoped for the other party members to come and join me.
My party members were undoubtedly skilled players. If I went with them, they would definitely become a strong force in the guild content that would be added later.
There was no time to waste. To recruit talent, I had to hit the ground running.
I stood up from my seat and dashed to my room.
“Hey, hey! Aren’t you going to study?”
*
The upcoming guild content would be crucial for both PVE and PVP.
Therefore, I had to recruit users who focused not just on raids but also on arenas and battlefields.
Where would be the best place to gather players who specialized in their job trees for PVP?
Despite the world changing, the places where users gathered didn’t shift.
I headed straight for the southern gate of Lunaris Capital City.
It was a place filled with users who only gathered basic specs and set up their flags all day long.
Once in a while, I saw them disappearing, surely matching for the arena.
I stepped into the central courtyard before the southern gate and drove my sword into the ground.
Clang!
It was an unspoken rule. Even though the world had changed, this remained unchanged.
I was making a statement. I hoped someone, anyone, would duel me.
To attract users interested in PVP, I had to show myself here.
“Yeo, isn’t that you?”
“Who’s Yeo?”
“The female middle school student setting…”
“Oh…”
I could hear whispers from the users around me.
But I ignored it. With my hand on the sword’s hilt, I gazed straight ahead.
Then, a lightly armored swordsman approached.
He wielded a short sword and a small round shield.
The shining silver armor encasing his entire arm revealed his class.
A job specialized in one-on-one duels. It was a gladiator.
Not wearing armor on his upper body indicated that he had chosen gladiator ranks one and two.
He adjusted his brass helmet and spoke.
“Are you here to duel?”
His tone was quite cocky. Still, it felt somewhat good.
Unlike his casual tone, he was carefully assessing my skills with every sense of his body.
The look peeking through the small gaps in his helmet was darting around restlessly.
“Shall we have a match?”
No additional words were necessary.
I set up the duel instantly, ensuring all conditions were identical.
The options of the items I wore changed and were tailored for arena specifications.
This was a setting to enjoy pure PVP without penalties.
A large flag dropped from the sky.
Clang!
“Are you not going to participate in the arena?”
“I don’t have time for that…”
“Still, it would be better to have at least a silver badge than to stand there with no rank.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a flurry of white sword strikes came flying in.
Fast and precise. There was no hesitation in using his body.
The moves spoke of his lengthy PVP experience.
My breathing began to change. I started to move my body fluidly in response to his motions.
After the high and low strikes, the shield on my left hand swung out.
A gladiator class could utilize their entire body as a weapon.
Boom!
I wasn’t just retreating. I twisted my body swiftly, channeling that force into my arm as I swung.
Yet, he deflected the attack with his left arm shield.
Thus, a brief exchange of strikes took place.
I didn’t block the force of the rebounding sword. Instead, I pulled my body back and infused rotation into the strike as I swung again.
Clang! With a sharp sound, he used his blade to block mine.
In that moment, his behavior began to change.
He apparently moved cautiously to observe my actions, but now he was pressing forward without restraint.
His arms and legs moved ominously. A kick aimed at my legs was surrounded by a bluish glow.
My field of vision expanded. The naked upper body of my unarmored opponent showcased his finely tuned muscles.
In my mind, the muscle movements began to be analyzed.
As time passed, my body began to respond instinctively to his attacks.
I could tell the direction of his strikes. I slipped my sword into the space before his swiftly swinging blade.
Now he was flustered.
“Uh…”
Here it comes.
His rhythm faltered.
I seized the opportunity without hesitation. I used a buff skill, infusing my entire sword with a radiant golden glow.
The opponent, accustomed to the sword’s short range, couldn’t react in time to the suddenly extended length of my sword.
Swish!
The elongated golden radiance pierced through him.
The moment the outcome of the duel was decided, the opponent let out a disheartened smile.
“Wow… huh… huh…”
“Want to go again?”
“Let’s do it.”
From that point on, the dueling continued.
We had a total of 20 matches, and I won 19 of them.
The continuous dueling naturally drew the attention of many.
I waited as before, with my sword planted in the ground.
It signified I would accept all challengers.
Subsequently, a string of challengers followed.
In the end, I fought nearly 100 duels that day.
100 matches, 95 wins, 5 losses.
The following day, and the next, and the next day.
I kept heading back to the southern gate for dueling.
Maybe it was thanks to the word spreading? The southern gate began to buzz with more people than before.
Even the ranked players who had been hiding in the corners focusing solely on the arena showed up.
People drew people in. As a result, the southern gate became a place where dueling freely was no longer feasible.
The time had come.
Together with Hwarang and a few others, I set out to find the guild manager NPC to create a guild.
“What will the guild name be?”
“Hmm… I have a few candidates…”
I mumbled in response to Hwarang’s question.
I had thought of some cool guild names, but I was uncertain about which to choose among them.
“Share those candidates with us.”
“Compassionate, Indifferent, The World, Destiny, Myth, Royal, Immortal…”
“Uh… what…”
“Yeo, are you really a middle school student?”
I blinked my eyes and looked around.
Everyone was giving me strange looks.
Why are they staring at me like that?
“What’s wrong?”
“I mean, are you really not aware of it?”
“Well, it seems like quite a few of those names are already taken? Should we buy a guild name…?”
Choosing a guild name was a very important ritual.
At least, I thought so.
I hadn’t given this much thought when deciding on a character nickname.
“Hey… the guild name candidates are quite…”
“Quite what?”
“Quite quirky, you know…?”
“Quirky… quirky?”
“Yeah.”
I stared at Hwarang in shock at his remark.
Quirky? How could he say that to me?
I felt a tremendous shock in my mindset. As I observed Hwarang with trembling eyes, he withdrew his gaze.
“Maybe something related to your favorite food would be better…”
“Exactly. Let’s try to find something that matches Yeo’s image?”
Image, image…
I nodded and closed my eyes.
This Yeo girl was a middle school student. What image comes to mind when you think of a middle school student?
Stockings? School uniform? No, I couldn’t use such things for a guild name.
Hwarang suggested I use my favorite food as the guild name.
Cold noodles…?
But when I checked, cold noodles was already taken.
Should I consider eel stew instead, suddenly the small candy Sohee gave me popped into my mind.
Soft & Chewy Cow.
“Oh, what?…”
The guild has been created.
The guild name is Soft & Chewy Cow.
“This is even better.”
“It’s cute. It fits perfectly with the image of a middle school girl.”
I nodded.
Though it was a name decided on a whim, it surprisingly wasn’t bad at all.
I immediately began sending out guild invitations.
Those who had already expressed interest in joining my guild were waiting after leaving their previous guild.
Just like that, I quickly amassed over 30 guild members.
I looked up at the guild name hovering above my head.
[Soft & Chewy Cow]
Now it was time to set a guild mark that suited this guild.
Through features to be updated later, I could use external images to set the guild mark, but for now, I could only use the basic images provided.
I chose an image of a fierce-looking bull as the guild mark.
