Your Commander-in-Chief – Chapter 27

What are some good strategies for a small group to take on a larger group in the game?

I think guerrilla warfare is the way to go. There’s no need to engage in a war of public opinion.

The “SsingSsing” guild was already destroying their own reputation.

It was the moment we prevent SsingSsing from joining at the entrance to the village.

The SsingSsing guild members waiting inside the village all used their Return Stones at once. It seemed they moved to the Capital City since they couldn’t join us in this state.

I immediately disbanded the guild members.

Others might think we won this short skirmish.

It’s time to cement that narrative.

“Everyone, disperse. Just do some regular field farming today. Dungeons are fine too. There’s no rush for the new area, is there? The items aren’t that great anyway.”

Everyone nodded at my response.

However, there were a few who hesitated and fidgeted.

They were users who primarily participated in PVP, focusing on battles and arenas, and their equipment specs weren’t that impressive.

I jumped in before they could speak.

“There are still some who haven’t tried a raid, right? Later, I’ll take responsibility for getting you raid equipment.”

I promised them raid gear.

Even if the items added in the new area were top-notch, they couldn’t surpass the best items from a season.

Everyone let out a sigh of relief upon hearing my words.

Just before the guild members scattered, I pulled aside the most skilled ones.

“Helena and Iyap, please stay.”

The wizard Helena, the thief Iyap, and the archer Hwarang were all incredibly mobile.

Helena, being a wizard, had an item called the Elegant Blue Gem, allowing her to use Blink faster than average wizards.

“I’m thinking of conducting guerrilla warfare. We’ll patrol the new area quietly with a small group. Can you assist?”

“Are you planning to take out SsingSsing if you spot them?”

“Yep.”

“What about the ordinary players?”

“Yep. Until they think they’ll die because of the guild mark ‘SsingSsing.’ Until that resentment is directed at the guild, we’ll keep repeating that action.”

And thus, the operation began.

Iyap and Hwarang, who could conceal their appearances, took up reconnaissance roles to gather information.

Helena and I hid behind a large rock, waiting for their messages.

“Guild Leader.”

“Yes?”

“You look cool.”

I smiled awkwardly at Helena’s compliment.

I knew it. I looked quite cool right now.

The timing was perfect. A newly formed guild was beginning to take on the notorious large guild in the server.

Regardless of the outcome, it made for a nice image. Our guild would quickly become famous.

“You look like a prince.”

“Uh…? A prince?”

Just as I was taken aback by Helena’s out-of-the-blue comment, Hwarang’s message came through.

Hwarang – [About 160 members of the SsingSsing guild are gathered at the first village. They seem to be looking for us?]

Yeo – [Keep watching. Don’t get caught.]

Hwarang – [Okay.]

“There are 160 members gathering in the village. Let’s start preparing for battle.”

I stood up and raised my sword.

Though 160 of them had gathered to fight, the enemy was nowhere in sight.

They’d be simmering down in the village before dispersing to look for us.

But they weren’t moving either. We needed to catch them the moment they realized we weren’t there.

SsingSsing’s strength came from their numbers.

Each individual’s skill wasn’t particularly high, so if they scattered, the four of us could definitely sweep them away.

Iyap – [They’re starting to separate. They’re breaking into groups of ten… Should we keep watching?]

Yeo – [Keep watching. In about 30 minutes, they should start thinning out. We’ll take our shot then.]

I started to move slowly with Helena. Aware of the main quest’s progression route thanks to my future knowledge, I was fully prepared.

Thirty minutes passed as I mentioned.

Helena and I were half-buried in the snow, holding our breath.

Iyap – [Some are starting to leave.]

Yeo – [Let’s start moving.]

I began to wiggle my fingers in the snow.

Manipulating the system interface, I opened the guild window and pressed the guild war tab.

“War?”

“Yep.”

As I nodded and touched the translucent message, it spread across the entire server.

[‘Soft & Chewy Cow’ guild declares war on ‘SsingSsing’ guild.]

The declared area was limited to the new area.

The war’s duration was set to four hours, and I planned to torment them until my connection dropped.

Once war was declared, PVP became possible between the two guilds without any penalties.

This means an environment was created where we could swing our swords without worry.

To initiate a guild war, a whopping 300 gold per hour was required.

However, considering I was running a raid gold pot, this amount wasn’t too much.

There were also guild funds donated by the guild members, but I chose to use my own money for future considerations.

“Didn’t you spend a lot of gold?”

“Yeah, I did…”

“Hmm…”

Helena nodded at my reply, then pointed her finger into the air.

At that moment, the guild’s fund amount increased dramatically.

[Guild member Helena donated 3,000 gold.]

“If you need more, just say.”

Despite donating 3,000 gold at once, she looked completely unfazed.

I nodded, feeling slightly bewildered.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah.”

The four of us began moving quickly.

When Hwarang and Iyap found SsingSsing guild members while concealed, Helena and I would dash out and wipe them out.

Iyap also stabbed his daggers into the chests of numerous SsingSsing guild members with surprise attacks.

The one racking up an overwhelming number of war points was Hwarang.

As the snow fell heavier from above, visibility diminished.

Hwarang took advantage of this and hid, launching powerful snipes from all directions.

With each shot, classes like wizards with weak defense unraveled.

Hwarang smartly avoided targeting those in heavy armor.

The fight needed to be brief.

Every second counted. If the enemies began to unite, we’d be at a disadvantage.

We could handle ten foes within ten seconds. We didn’t even glance at regions with over ten.

An hour passed just like that.

Each of us had over 50 kills recorded, but Hwarang exceeded 100.

SsingSsing wasn’t stupid. After confirming our smaller numbers, their guild members began positioning themselves in the areas where they’d typically complete quests.

But that held little significance.

Hwarang’s long-range shots came in from vast distances. Only paladins or knights with high defense could survive his attacks.

As Hwarang continued his sniping, SsingSsing started deploying patrols.

The three of us — excluding Hwarang — began targeting those patrols.

Regardless of SsingSsing, there was a limit to how many guild members they could operate at once.

If they allocated too many members to patrol, the rest were left vulnerable.

Helena utilized her extremely short Blink cooldown to dive into enemy territory unpredictably.

Casting powerful spells, the moment that ended, she burst into the enemy ranks unleashing a massive fireball.

The patrol formed to capture Hwarang was wiped out in the process.

Not a single kill was given away. Continuous attacks drained the enemy’s health.

Yeo – [Hey, Hwarang.]

Hwarang – [Yeah.]

Yeo – [Is it fun?]

Hwarang – [Yeah.]

Even as Hwarang replied, his kill score soared quickly.

Hwarang was sniping in areas that were necessary for progressing the main quest.

Even if he died, he returned. Even if he died again, he kept running back. He needed to converse with NPCs to proceed, but Hwarang’s shots kept raining down during those conversations.

The end was drawing near.

The dreaded time of the shutdown began to weigh on my mind.

If only I had more time; if I could play this game for 24 hours, I could have completely rooted out the guild mark of SsingSsing from this new area…

At 9:45 PM, a message appeared across the entire server.

[‘Soft & Chewy Cow’ guild has won the war against ‘SsingSsing’ guild!]

Score

782 vs 0

The message appeared for everyone playing Deron to see.

The score was also something everyone could verify.

What would the guild members think upon realizing their guild had lost so overwhelmingly?

Especially with such a glaring score.

The guild that lost in a war received the overall debuff [Disgrace].

During the war, interacting with NPCs in the field would be prohibited as a penalty.

Of course, there were ways to lift that debuff.

If they traveled to the guild management NPC in the Lunaris Capital City and donated a substantial amount of gold, they could remove the debuff.

“It’s about time to wrap it up.”

“Yeah. That’s why I’m a bit disappointed.”

I responded to Helena’s comment while drafting a message.

Yeo – [You’re going to keep playing, right?]

Hwarang – [Aren’t you studying today?]

Yeo – [Yep, if you’re going to keep this up, let me do it alone.]

Hwarang – [Can I keep going?]

Yeo – [I hope you do.]

Hwarang – [Okay.]

Hwarang gladly accepted my request.

It seemed he was getting hooked on the fighting.

Yeo – [Until what time are you playing?]

Hwarang – [I probably won’t sleep today.]

I quickly set an additional war.

[‘Soft & Chewy Cow’ guild declares war on ‘SsingSsing’ guild.]

The new war duration was set for ten hours.

The battle zone was limited to the new area.

Guilds engaged in a war couldn’t declare wars on other guilds, so guild members farming in other areas wouldn’t be attacked.

If they carried out forced PVP without declaring, they would face severe penalties.

For every kill, the outlaws score would increase by ten. Accumulate over 30 points, and they’d be classified as [Outlaw], prohibiting them from entering towns.

The moment they entered a town as an outlaw, powerful guards would come to haul them off to prison.

Of course, if they were willing to endure that penalty to stab someone, there’d be no helping it…

“I guess I should head off soon.”

“Are you leaving too, Helena?”

“Yeah, I can only stay until 10 PM.”

With those words, Helena used her Return Stone and vanished.

“What about you, Iyap?”

“I plan to wander around here until I sleep.”

Iyap chuckled lightly, pulling out his dagger.

The dagger exuding a red aura was a weapon obtainable from raids.

“Then I’ll leave it to you.”

Leaving the aftermath to them, I used the Return Stone.

I might not achieve as overwhelming a score as before, but if Iyap and Hwarang alone rake in kills in the new area, we’d still win this war.
